2019 Election: SPN Ajegunle Reaches to the Masses with Socialist Alternative

Saturday 2 February, 2019 in Ajegunle community was an inspirational day for a lot of party supporters, friends and comrades but most especially an eleven year old boy known as "Old Soldier" (who attended the SPN Declaration Ceremony few weeks ago). He was enthusiast and excited going out with party members for the sensitization rally organized and initiated by the Socialist Party of Nigeria and members of Democratic Socialist Movement respectively (the initiators of SPN).

The campaign was just the way members of DSM have always advocated  not only for working people to vote "SPN" in this election but to fundamentally join SPN to build a working peoples' alternative, in order to rescue power from the hands of capitalist politicians and their system. The campaign and sensitization rally that covered many streets kick offed at exactly 4:05pm

More than 2000 copies produced flyers and leaflets of SPN were all circulated to residents, workers, Okada riders, youth, food vendor etc. People in different streets were engaged by party supporters with solidarity songs in different languages: Yoruba, Pidgin and English. Also, DSM members were at the sensitization rally to speak to people on the fundamental need why they should join.  At the same time on the party programme, that in bringing a better REAL change, it will require building a party like Socialist Party of Nigeria armed with scientific and working people's programmes.

The areas covered were Alaigbiagba with other neighbouring streets and communities (one of the strong base of the All Progresssives' Congress), Ward A under Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Area. Despite the apathy, and going by the failed policies of the Buhari led APC capitalist regime and the Ambode Lagos APC hundreds of people who collected either the flyers or leaflets showed interest especially in wanting to know the content of the party programme.

VOTING IS NOT ENOUGH

SPN members appreciated the warm support given to the campaign and sensitization rally, but explained  that "voting is not enough" to bring the fundamental changes they the poor class desire, Or being able to chase the hawks from office and install a working peoples' government. Despite election has always been the traditional medium of working people to participate in politics and liberal democracy by voting as documented in history in 1993 election of Military Must Go and the 2015 election (in addition with previous and subsequent ones) that witnessed the bankrupt APC Mantra of Change.

The fight to have a REAL CHANGE compare to what the APC promised the working people, is not by voting alone but for working class families, residents and youths in community and work places to start thinking of building a political alternative, which the Socialist Party of Nigeria (SPN) is doing by calling on every genuine persons to do by joining. That this is the only fundamental way forward left to end the inequality in our society. Majority of the persons who initially were reluctant to collect the campaign materials, hearing some of these perspectives, decided to collect it.

DSM members who laid the historic background of how SPN has emerge after long political and legal battle with INEC over the party registration, also pointed it out in some of the discussions with people while circulating flyers and leaflets respectively. That the Socialist Party of Nigeria is not only electoral party but as party calling on them working people in Alaigbiagba community (and other areas sensitized) to join the party in order to  a formidable working peoples' alternative on socialist program. That this is why the party was formed and most importantly for a socialist revolution and working people government to be installed.

The Jakande led Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) in the 1979 - 83 was also used as a classic example. Despite it not being a socialist oriented government, however, a radical government with mass oriented programmes to convince people as the most practical example to explain the fundamental philosophy of what Socialism is; and how it can be use through it programmes to improve the living condition of the mass. Sharp contrast were drawn between the Jakande regime and the present capitalist politicians and the so called progressives' both in politics and programme: the Public Private Partnership (PPP). These discussions were at held a tailoring shop including where some pensioners sat; and a copy of the new edition of SD was sold.

JOIN SPN TODAY

While marching from streets to streets to reach out to working people. Supporters of the party especially the women from Ugbekwankwo axis and speaking by Yoruba tongue, encourage both the old and young including women of their peer group to join the Socialist Party of Nigeria. Interestingly, the eleven year old: "Old Soldier" who was on ground to circulate leaflets/flyers, equally canvass residents in the community to join the  party as the viable alternative. He was like an inspiration to a lot of people seeing him chanting the songs of struggle along.

Sharp solidarity songs were sang: SPN is calling on the masses! Join us today! To fight for an alternative! Mum, Daddy! SPN le dibo fu! Social Revolution X2, the only way to save the masses, Social Revolution at different spot. At a particular junction, people were address about SPN. People in listening to the megaphone. It was put before them as working people that if we don't come together as downtrodden to build a political alternative, armed with the necessary socialist programmes; the ruling capitalist politicians of APC, PDP and all bourgeois parties would continue to enslave us as people.

Not everyone engaged totally agreed with the proposed slogan of joining the SPN. However, large proportion of people especially residents, workers, youths etc were of the opinion that they are all tired of the APC and PDP politics. It was equally suggested that lamenting as simply stated by DSM members and supporters. Lamentation would not bring a lasting solution to the suffering, poverty and hardship all under the system of capitalism to an end. Unless we come together as oppressed people to build a socialist alternative, will then the widening inequality in society be ashes.
