ALFRED ADEGOKE: TINUBU'S GAFFE SHOWS THE DANGER OF GODFATHERISM

The candidate of the Socialist Party of Nigeria (SPN) in the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State, Barrister Alfred Adegoke, has joined "genuine Democrats in Osun State to condemn the contemptible and arrogant statement made by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the former governor of Lagos State, allegedly at the Ata Oja of Osogbo palace on Monday, 10th September, 2018."

"The statement made by Bola Tinubu is clearly sickening, from the widely circulated video of his remarks reportedly at the Ata-Oja of Osogbo palace," Alfred Adegoke noted. He said Tinubu's statement is a dire warning to the common people concerning the threat that big money-bags and godfathers pose to democracy.

Alfred Adegoke said that "Section 16, sub section 2(c) of our nation's constitution states that '(t)he State shall direct its policy towards ensuring that the economic system is not operated in such a manner as to permit the concentration of wealth or the means of production and exchange in the hands of few individuals or of a group....' Claiming to be richer than a state of the federation is a self indictment on the part of Tinubu, his candidate, Gboyega Oyetola and their capitalist party, APC of over-concentration of wealth. We are interested in how Tinubu being a former public servant and a prominent member of the ruling party became richer than a state of the federation, considering his many business transactions with the governments of the ruling APC. We dare Tinubu to open his books to public scrutiny, or the EFCC to probe such declaration of outrageous wealth."

He said further, "Secondly, I condemn Tinubu's condescending comment that seek to suggest that he was doing the people of Osun State a favour by bringing an outsider to liberate them. Is Tinubu saying that over 4.2 million people of Osun State can not govern themselves without the "benevolence" of the "mighty" moneybag?",

The SPN's governorship candidate further stated that "Tinubu was economical with the truth in his assessment of Aregbesola's eight years of con-artistry in Osun. To say that Aregbesola has not disappointed Osun people (as Tinubu claimed), despite the phenomenon of unpaid salaries and mindless looting of Osun's funds, is a grotesque attempt at revising recent history. Osun people should therefore hold with a pinch of salt the vague promises Tinubu made on behalf of Gboyega Oyetola, the candidate of the APC in the forthcoming election. The APC is an open ditch in daylight that must be avoided with vigilance"

"The central point of the SPN's economic programme is to put an end to such provocative image that Tinubu has painted of himself, of a few individual richer than a state of the federation while unemployment and acute poverty ravages the mass majority. It is this concentration of wealth that the SPN seeks to restructure, and plan the economy of Osun, through the direct and duly compensated labour of the people of Osun, in order to provide equal opportunity, free education and health care for all," Barrister Alfred Adegoke declared. He said the forthcoming election, with the intervention of the SPN, gives the people of Osun the opportunity to put an end to the reign of billionaires who have turned politics into big business investment.
