Osun Election: Short Note from SPN campaign

Friday August 31, 2018  was eventful for #SPN Governorship Campaign in Osun State. We started the day with a radio interview of our candidate, Alfred Adegoke on the popular Rave FM, Osogbo, where our candidate brilliantly argued our socialist programmes and ideas out. The responses we got after the programme showed the huge impact our campaign is making, given that we are the only one saying something really different in this election.

The radio interview was followed by a full campaign rally in Ile-Ife and Modakeke communities. The rally was really eventful. Many people were mesmerised seeing a governorship candidate addressing people from street to street, discussing with them, giving them leaflets, driving his own car, telling people he would collect workers' salary and end fraudulent contract system, etc. A woman at Mayfair Garage was specifically glad that she could see and talk to a governorship candidate. She's bitter that other candidates only speak over people's heads. At Lagere, when a man, having heard that our candidate was around, tried to extort money from us, his friend (who had been convinced of our programmes) told him that, "he's different from the rest. He rides his own car". Yes, many people, out of capitalism-induced poverty and pervasive political cynicism, were requesting for money. This, however, became a useful opportunity for us to educate them politically. This was very fruitful. We did not give a single kobo to anyone, rather we made contacts from our principled but mature  opposition to monetary inducement. Hundreds of our leaflets were read patiently by many people. PDP had its campaign in Ife earlier in the week. But what did they do? Talk over people's heads; no engagement with the people. Yes, they had crowd, but bought and passive crowd. We met the people and discussed with them.

We ended the day's activities by hosting an Abuja-based friend of our party. He has been following our campaign so far, and made commitment to support us.

Irrespective of the challenges faced, we draw inspirations from the fact that our campaign is reaching a wider layer of the people, and for the first time in the history of Osun State, and indeed, Nigeria, our socialist programmes and ideas are challenging the capitalist ideology on the political plain. We have had to struggle for every gain we recorded (about N250,000 campaign fund, appearances on 6 media platforms including 5 broadcast media, street rallies in Ife and Osogbo zones, production and circulation of thousands of leaflets and posters, tens of contacts made, etc.) You too should be part of history.

Our campaigns continue next week in Ikirun, Ede and Ilesa zones. Our campaign symposium and press conference are slated  for this Saturday.

Special appreciation to all members and supporters who participated in our campaign in Ife yesterday.

To an ordinary mind, joining any of the anti-masses bourgeois politicians may look like an easy and quick route. But hard realities of life will teach them a better lesson.
